I've been busy this spring –– celebrating and reuniting and congratulating and basking and fangirling and traveling and just generally be-ing. It's been a good couple months.

Naturally all of these events required wardrobe updates and multiple costume changes. So while my social calendar's been packed, my closet's feeling the squeeze, too. It's never too late for a deep spring clean, right?

My SS14 essentials:

March 28, 2014

take me away

Blame it on my Big Sur trip earlier this month or Daylight Savings Time or my wanderlusting friends but all I want to do with my weekends these days is get away. These are a few of my vacation essentials from Yoox. (Yes, obvi that Marc Jacobs rabbit fur duffle is a must-have.)

Let's all go!

P.S. Use code SHOPSENSE15 for 15% off your next yoox.com order + Free Shipping - sweet!
P.P.S. What's a roadtrip without tunes? Pre-Big Sur my bearded bubs made me a mix with this one on it. He's the cutest cute to ever cute - hand's down.

day 5

Grey Antics Jacket [old] | Wilfred Free Parleur Dress [on major sale!] | Frye Veronica Back Zip Boots
My first Friday with the ShopSense team feels like forever ago now. I'm glad my end-of-week look doesn't make me cringe yet. Everybody makes [sartorial] mistakes but the long-sleeved midi-dress + oversized bouclé bomber combo = never a mistake. (Insert Beyonce hair flip gif here) Equal parts slinky and slouchy, this look is alllllll me until summer when strappy slouchy things become more appropriate.
P.S. After a year in my apartment my mind's on nesting resolutions like adding more Mack-friendly greenery to my urban oasis and/or not leaving a PJ pile on the floor of my closet at all times. In the meantime, I'm enjoying this pretty Kygo remix and scrolling fab.com/Apartment Therapy/Pinterest in pursuit of some apt inspo.

day 4

Silence and Noise Blazer | Aritzia Tee | Madewell Skinny Skinny Ankle Jeans [similar] | GAP Men's Belt [similar] | Corso Como Riding Boots [similar]
I love these boots but in recent years had assumed that their classic look didn't really mesh with my evolution towards a more modern, minimal style. Plus black skinnies and a slouchy tee, though, these boots are experiencing a major renaissance in my wardrobe.

Meet my one foot tall ginger snuggle bug, Mack
While my furry bubs is the sweetest, his unsolicited attempts to assist in my photo taking get in the way sometimes. In retrospect, a black cat probably would have been the way to go. But it's true what they say -- you don't get to choose who you love. (Those snow shoes, tho.)

P.S. Orange bubsie + Blood Orange makes for a sweet post, right? Majorly swooning over this track from his sophomore-ish LP.

day 3

Trouvé Turtleneck [similar here] | Babaton Elliot Pants | Cheap Monday Layer Heel Bootie
I came home from my September NYC trip with a long list of fall/winter must haves inspired by the ultra-chic Soho shop girls: low-cut black ankle boots, a-line midi skirts, button down blouses and skinny cropped trousers. This Aritzia pair is everything I had been searching for: slim but not skintight, just the right amount of stretch. Added bonus: they feel so much more grown up than jeans (I had "big girl pants" here but that's creepy, yes? Yes.).

Day 3 called for the debut of my favorite (read: only) turtleneck. It's perfectly sheer, has interesting princess-like seaming and sleeves that reach my fingers AKA just the way I like them. Yes, the list of criteria for the perfect turtleneck is that long. No, you don't want to get me started on denim.

P.S. There was a ton of buzz around NYC crew Wet's track "You're the Best" last year but the rest of their EP has me crushing even harder.

day 2

Forever 21 Sweater  [similar] | Leith Double Layered Tube Skirt | Cheap Monday Layer Heel Booties
In 2013 I resolved that I wouldn't shop fast fashion brands anymore. I told myself it was time to grow up and begin investing in quality pieces rather than acquiring trend pieces at volume. Well, I made it a respectable five or six months before I broke down and bought gym clothes at F21 (spoiler alert: not made for adult bodies/booties). But even then I avoided the siren song of F21's absurdly inexpensive trend pieces until a few months later when Jennie dragged me there in pursuit of tribal prints and amidst the studded pleather and distressed-everythings I spotted this sweater that just screamed Wang knock off. SOLD!

This was Day 2. I needed something that could translate from workwear to winebar-wear for a friend's birthday down the block. The cropped sweater and midi-length skirt pairing is one of my favorite silhouettes right now. What's yours?

Aq/Aq Skirts · The Row Cashmere Sweaters · Hudson Boots

P.S. I love Major Lazer. I love Pharrell. I really, really love this Major Lazer featuring Pharrell track. Enjoy! xx

day 1

Jeffrey Campbell Weber Bootie | Wilfred Rollinson Blouse [similar here] | Zara Faux Leather Leggings [similar here]
It's no secret that my style speaks loudly. Whether they're saying, "Ooh, we're so edgy!" or "Cat hair? No, it's mohair..." my clothes make a statement. So when it came time to decide what I wanted to wear for my first day on the ShopSense team, I really contemplated the kind of first impression I wanted to make. And then after standing in my closet for 45 minutes waiting for inspiration to strike, I went with something that said, "Black goes with black, right?".

What's your ideal first day 'fit?

Marsèll Boots · Asos Tunics · Alice + Olivia Leggings

P.S. This has been my getting dressed soundtrack for a month now. My neighbors hate me. But I'm a grown woman! I can do whatever I want.
